What is FFKM? General Properties, Compatibility & More
FFKM is a family of perfluoroelastomer compounds that contain even higher amounts of fluoride than FKM. FFKM o-rings provide exceptional high temperature and chemical resistance, and can even withstand prolonged exposure to oxygen-plasma. FFKM o-rings, seals, and gaskets can be provided for continuous service in temperatures as high as 621°F (327°C). These o-rings, etc., are commonly used in applications that involve repeated or prolonged contact with hydrocarbons and/or highly corrosive fluids, or those that encounter a wide range of temperatures.
FFKM perfluoroelastomer materials are specified by ASTM 1418 standard, and are equivalent to FFPMs by ISO/DIN 1629 standards.
FFKM O-Rings for Vacuum Applications
If you need reliable seals for vacuum applications, very low contamination (both outgassing and particle emissions) or high temperature (392-572°F/200-300°C) operations that require prolonged out-backing or processing times, we recommend custom-made, cleanroom-manufactured FFKM o-rings. After manufacturing, these o-rings are plasma-vacuum cleaned and/or vacuum baked to eliminate outgassing and provide vacuum leak tightness. When so treated, these FFKM o-rings can be used in UHV-pressure applications.
FFKM Perfluoroelastomer Options
O-rings, seals, and gaskets manufactured from DuPont™’s Kalrez® FFKM can resist more than 1,800 different chemicals and provide high temperature stability comparable to PTFE (≈621°F/327°C). Kalrez® FFKM is well-suited to use in the processing of highly aggressive chemicals, semiconductor wafer fabrication, pharmaceutical processing, oil and gas recovery, and aerospace applications.
Kalrez® o-rings, gaskets, and seals provide proven, long-term performance, meaning less frequent replacement, repair, and inspection and increased process and equipment uptime for improved productivity and overall yield.
By reducing particulates, lowering extractables, and resisting degradation in harsh plasma environments, Kalrez® FFKM o-rings also help prevent contamination in semiconductor processing. This material also provides low outgassing in vacuum-sealing applications.
